Waking Up Early
Saturday — April 17th, 2010

Last week I attempted to wake up at 6:30 AM for 3 consecutive days in order to attend morning muay thai classes.
The first day I woke up and felt disgusting. This was mainly due to the fact that I didn’t fall asleep until 12:00am the previous night. After what felt like the hardest workout in my life, due to my own inactivity for several months, I went back home to shower. Throughout the rest of the day at work I felt like puking. It wasn’t until noon I felt better and was able to do any form of work. The following evening I fell asleep at 11 pm.
On Wednesday morning I awoke before my alarm clock, and felt GREAT. The workout was no challenge at all, and I felt energized throughout the day. In fact I did a double shift and went to work on another project after work. Which lead me to fall asleep at 1 am.
Needless to say I didn’t wake up Thursday morning until 9am, mainly due to the fact that I forgot to set an alarm like a n00b.

I plan on trying this regiment again this week. Wish me luck!

    A great trick i learned to do when I have to wake up early is to set a second alarm for the actual time you need to wake up and set the first one for about 10 min. earlier. If your really tired you will fall back asleep again and feel as if you got a little extra sleep when you didn’t. It really helps, but again only if you fall back asleep after the first alarm.

    Yeah, for that purpose I actually use three alarms. Way to overkill one might think, but actually it works out – the first one is set for 04:30, the second for 05:50 and the final one for 06:07. So of course, I wake up around 08:00 am.

    Getting up in the morning is easiest when it’s very early, but not the healthiest. Damn school.

    honestly, its taken me around 2 years to fully adjust to 1st shift. I now have the majikal ability to wake up at 5:15 a.m. and actually do stuff. On a side note, buy (and ride) a motorcycle into work. 50-70 degree wind @ 80 mph = an awake worker…or student. heck, a groundhog would be awake after that.
