I was busy surfing the internet at work when I heard what sounded like a rumble, like a giant ship crashing slowly into a wooden dock. The office went black, there was brief pause, as people though perhaps it was a short glitch or they blinked for a little too long. I looked outside the window and noticed the traffic lights were off, but the TTC was still running. This made me realize that it was not a city wide issue. Immediately my officemates went on their mobile phones checking twitter for the latest news.

They should make twitter a news station. Just have confirmed locals just like they do for celebrities.

Since I live 3 blocks away from the conference center, I basically spent the entire weekend indoors.

Truth be told, I’m more then a little upset at the thugs that decided protesting means you can ignore laws. Laws such as not smashing windows, setting fires to police cars, or throwing bricks at reporters. Come on, what the hell are you thinking? These people are not protesting anything, they are just thrill seeking.

All in all I think the police presence was worth 1 billion dollars. It would have been better if the police actually did something on Saturday, while the vandals were having their way with stores. I mean they should have interjected or rushed them. Which makes me wonder if the police let the Black Bloc happen, feeding the crowd old police cars to be smashed, so the next day they could take the gloves off and totally woop ass.

I’m just glad it’s over.

I didn’t feel it because I was in the subway at the time. When I got back to my desk my girlfriend gave me a call to see if I was OK. Since I heard it was a small earthquake and the calmness in her voice she was fine told me she was fine, I began to wonder out loud how my newly bought TV was doing. This pissed her off, because it totally sounded like I didn’t care about her as much as my TV. I have got to bolt things down so this doesn’t happen again.

In Toronto, there is the CN Tower one of the tallest free standing structures in the world. Being so iconic most condo developers feel compelled to show the CN Tower even if they no where near. I mean if everyone can see the tower from everywhere, maybe we should just have long cable wires connecting major intersections, and everyone would just zip-line their way home and to work. Of course that would just mean a massive line up for the elevators at the CN Tower during rush hour.

Yeah

I never really appreciated this urban marvel until I had to do a project for Marketing Geography (great course BTW), in which we had to analyze the stores from a section of PATH. The PATH stretches for 27 km, and has over a 1000 shops. If you’re new to Toronto, I highly suggest you take a stroll during the afternoon, for more details check out http://www.toronto.ca/path/

Path Logical

When I got my job downtown, I was kind of surprised to learn there was a vast underground network of walkable tunnels underneath the city. It sounds so outlandish. It is a good thing that they keep the molemen population in check, though, because that would put a damper on tourism.

Bike Paths and Trails
There are a ton of great biking paths/trails in Toronto. I just picked up a free map of them from MEC (Mountain Equipment Coop). Check it out.
